An R. S. Lovelace Lady's Bicycle. A rare quality machine made in Henstridge (in the civil parish of Somerset) circa 1898. A manufacturer of renown, patenting and manufacturing high quality bicycles of his own design with some very advanced 'lightweight' features. The 19-inch frame would suit a small lady, 17-inch handlebars with a lever-operated plunger brake to the front wheel, fixed rear wheel, narrow section inch-pitch chain operated by a 5-inch chain wheel. archetypal 'Lovelace' braced bottom bracket, circular section tubing for the rear and front forks and patented hub lugs for straight spoking.
