Lot 458
An A. Spaul & Co, of Norwich 'Fly' Ordinary. A circa 1885 46-inch bicycle from this rare but quality East of England maker, it comprises a bronze hub on captured main bearings, original spokes with a ¾-inch crescent rim with black tyring, accentuated oval backbone supporting a leaf spring and padded saddle on an original pan. The deep-set hooped 26-inch handlebars have original turned bone grips and brass collars, with brake lever fulcrums, but without a spoon brake mechanism. Unusually, the bicycle has two name shields fixed to the backbone and headstock. Pedals complete the ensemble.
