Pierrot playing his mandolin to the moon, pining for love of Columbine. A pantomime clown from the French series of characters, whose origins date from a late seventeenth-century Italian troupe of players performing in Paris and known as the Comédie-Italienne. A popular mascot personality from the 1920s, this example finished in nickel-plate on bronze now with polished patina, and ivorine head and hands. Mounted on a radiator cap, 5-inches (13cms) high.
