A MID 19TH CENTURY POLICE OR CUSTOMS OFFICERS SWORD.
With an unmarked 59cm Cutlass form blade with double edged point and full fullers, the knucklebow guard in brass with forward swept quillon, stepped oval pommel and fish skin grip, fitted with a small round brass release button. With a black leather scabbard with brass mounts and oval frog button, on a leather belt hanger, 75cm overall. Swords of this type seem to have been used but not only the Police and Customs Officers but also prison officers and other uniformed service.
