An 1898 Shapless & Watts 'Othello' Kerosene Lamp.  A very rare derivation of another rare lamp, the 'Favourite', this lamp was manufactured in Philadelphia, and was designed to be mounted to either side of the forks of a bicycle, where it would shine a light forward and backward, there being two plano-convex lenses either side of the petit burner. The lamp is complete with perfect red side glasses, oil reservoir sprung clips and mounting bracket to allow for swinging. Nickel-plated. 6¼-inches (14cm). ECL 103.

“I have to say I’m VERY impressed by the level of research that has gone in to the various items of my late father’s ...  Matthew sent me the full history of my Grandfather’s medals from WW1 - without any input from myself - so I’d only just sent him a note saying thanks, then the postman arrived with your items ... with even more evidence of unfrequented detailed research ! It’s been an absolute pleasure dealing with you all ... and may the pleasant surprises keep on coming !”
