An 1882 Lucas & Son 'King of the Road' Hub Lamp.  An oil-powered third model transitional lamp that, given its features, must date from the summer of 1882. The near-side ruby glass window does not slide up to allow for lighting. Although the oil reservoir has been repaired in recent times, the lamp is complete, with the correct wick winder is insitu. The hub tighteners and centralising antennae appear correct. All the glasses are undamaged, save for a small chip to the edge of the front glass. There are small areas of its original enamel finish. This is a medium-size lamp made by the company at the time, and is designed to fit a 52-inch+ size wheel. ECL 23. 8-inches (20cm) high.
