Lot 304

A c1898 Humber Gentleman's Bicycle comprising several interesting features, the 26-inch frame, numbered 507565, appears sound and the remains of the company transfer can be seen on the headstock. The brakes are unusual and the parts to complete the ensemble come with the machine. Also fitted is an unusual Eadie (type) fixed and freewheel rear hub, operated by a top tube quadrant. Other features include an inch-pitch chain and a 5-inch chain-wheel, a braced off-side rear fork, thread-gripped rat-trap pedals, 20-inch curved flat handlebars, bell, pump and an early 'OO' labelled Brooks leather saddle.

“I have to say I’m VERY impressed by the level of research that has gone in to the various items of my late father’s ...  Matthew sent me the full history of my Grandfather’s medals from WW1 - without any input from myself - so I’d only just sent him a note saying thanks, then the postman arrived with your items ... with even more evidence of unfrequented detailed research ! It’s been an absolute pleasure dealing with you all ... and may the pleasant surprises keep on coming !”
