Lot 301

A c1910 B.S.A. Fittings Gentleman's Bicycle.  The braced frame measures 25-inches and remains in largely original condition, featuring a handlebar-operated rear brake and an auxiliary front brake. A (later?) K-type Sturmey Archer three-speed rear hub and Westwood rim is currently fitted to aid use in recent years, but its original back-pedalling hub and Roman rim (to match the front rim) comes with its purchase. Also fitted are rat-trap pedals, a period rear luggage rack, a bell, 17-inch curved flat handlebars and a 1920s Lucas 'Calcia Cadet' acetylene gas lamp mounted at the front. The early Brooks saddle is showing its years, but is usable. (2)

“Amongst the things that have impressed me most are -your Expertise (knowledge based on experience - it’s either that, or research) which enabled you to identify items which deserved a place in the Fine Art Sales, where several went on to achieve spectacular figures. -your lotting. The way some items are lotted together, but something similar, but of higher value, is lotted on it’s own, or is put with some items of similar interest but much lower value. -your realistic guide prices. It all adds up to a seriously impressive service ! Many thanks to you and your team.”
