‡CHARLES WALTER SIMPSON (1885-1971) GEORGE IN THE LOGGIA (`GEORGE AT DUNCAN'S`) Signed, oil on canvas 49.5 x 59.5cm. Exhibited: Glasgow, Royal Institute of Fine Arts * A view from Charlotte Cottage, above Lamorna Cove, where the Simpsons lived from the late 1920s. The house had been built by William Matthews Duncan as his retirement home and the house was very close to the home of his friend, Samuel John Lamorna Birch. The house became known as "Duncan's" despite the Simpsons' residency. This picture was painted in about 1932 and remained in the artist's collection after they moved to their subsequent home in Penzance. It was sold by the artist's daughter, Leonora, in 1999.
