MESOPOTAMIAN ANTIQUITIES:
A fragmentary foundation cone, with the cone head and a small part of the text remaining, height 4.5cm, mounted with provenance noted on the sides; together with two fragmentary baked clay cuneiform tablets, the larger substantially survives with clear wedge-shaped cuneiform text on both sides and the complete end, 12cm x 6cm x 3cm; the smaller tablet more fragmentary, 5.5cm x 7cm, late 3rd Millennium B.C. Provenance:
The ink inscription on paper to one side of the base of reads: 'Inscribed Foundation cone from Ur of the Chaldees date approx 2000 B.C. given to the Rev. J.H.P Still by Sir Leonard Woolley at Ur during his excavations in 1924' A E Wade 1957 Alresford and on the other side: 'Foundation cone from Ur of the Chaldees' in white paint.
