* This composition compares, in part, with a portrait of Anne, Lady Hope (nee Hopton) with her three children (Thomas, Henry and Jane), by Gheeraerts, 1596, (204 x 122cm) (London, National Gallery, lent from a private collection). The present composition was formerly identified as a portrait of Anne of Denmark (1574-1619).
Provenance: By descent in the family of Sir Samuel Rush Meyrick (1783-1848), Goodrich Court, Herefordshire; bears inscription Purchased from the Meyrick Collection 1872 on the stretcher
