Illumination. [The Office of Compline as now used in the Roman Catholic Church], finely executed by Ruth Mary Wood over 30 leaves of vellum, with 3 full-page drawings, 20 head- and tail-pieces and 54 initial letters, full polished pigskin, gilt, clasps, 83mm x 123mm, 1922 Ruth Mary Wood (1899-1980) was an artist and illuminator. She studied at Exeter School of Art and exhibited at Wembley (1924-25) and the Paris and Zurich Internationals (1925-26). Her published illustrative work includes The Adventures of Gabriel in his Search for Mr Shaw. In later life, she was an instructor at Exeter School of Art and lived in Honiton, Devon.
