[Blunden, Edmund] De Bello Germanico. A Fragment of Trench History. Written in 1918 by the Author of Undertones of War, number 15 of 25 signed copies on special paper, contemporary half calf, black morocco gilt spine label, 8vo, Hawstead: G. A. Blunden, 1930 Originally in the library of Hector Buck who was Edmund Blunden's fag at Christ's Hospital. They wrote to each other regularly when E.B. was fighting in France. Later he taught Classics at Christ's Hospital when Dennis Silk was a pupil there and they formed a close friendship through the sport of fives. The correspondence between Hector Buck and Edmund Blunden was published in More Than a Brother, 1917-67, 1996. This volume was later given to Dennis Silk by a mutual friend. Apparently written in 1918, Blunden never wanted it published, but gave it to his brother Gilbert, who was short of money.

“I just wanted to thank you for all your help with sorting mum’s possessions out. You have been kind, compassionate, professional and are clearly experts in your field. You have both communicated every step of the process, so I felt very informed and confident that I could leave everything to you. You have managed to make a stressful process not stressful at all!! Ryan and Jayden were also brilliant when they came to take the furniture. Thanks so much to you all. I’ve been full of praise for you all, and Lawrences, to anyone who’s asked me how the sale of mum’s house is going. I’ll definitely be recommending!”
