HUGH BIRKETT (1919-2002) - COTSWOLD SCHOOL DISPLAY CABINET, 1970 a large mahogany and possibly maple cabinet, with a shaped front and glazed doors and sides. With 3 shaped internal shelves, the cabinet supported on a separate base. Carved to the back, HB 1970. 204cms high, 152cms across *Hugh Birkett was born into the Arts and Crafts Movement as his parents were involved in the design and making of metalwork in Birmingham in the early part of the 20th. After briefly attending the Birmingham School of Furniture he became an apprentice of Oliver Morel in 1948, staying for around 18 months. In 1966 he moved to Moreton-in-Marsh to a house with large workshop, and continued to make high quality furniture in the Cotswold tradition. From a private collection.
