Lot 1830
A SCRIMSHAW WHALE'S TOOTH,
carved with two scenes of naval battles and inscribed 'Commodore Oliver H Perry/Victory over the British Fleet/On Lake Erie on the/10th of September 1813' inside a floral cartouche, 19.5cm
Provenance: Family history suggests that a family member, Commander Thomas Henry Wilson, who had served in the Royal Navy, went to Canada in 1824 having obtained a grant of land on the terms prescribed for Half Pay Officers. This family member died on October 1834 and the tooth in question by repute formed part of his estate.
