A REGULATOR CLOCK, THE DIAL SIGNED ARCHARD, LONDON
the 11" silvered dial with minute sweep hand, subsidiary second and hour dials, inscribed 'Archard, No. 70 South Audley St, London', on a brass movement with dead beat escapement, jewelled pallet and evidence of later electrical work now removed, steel, glass and mercury pendulum with brass indicator plate, housed in a mahogany case with arching hood with glazed side panels, the trunk with arched glazed door, panelled base and plinth foot, height 189cm.
A Henry Archard is recorded in South Audley Street between 1851 and 1870.
Provenance: Family history suggests that the clock was bought by the family directly from Archard's premises before World War 2. It is believed that this clock was the Master Clock in Archard's premises and used by other local makers to set their clocks from.
