* After the picture exhibited at The Royal Academy, 1900, no.503, now in Dudley Museum and Art Gallery. It has been recently established that the scene depicts the sale of William Bromley's farm at Yalding in Kent in 1874. Bromley sits disconsolately in the foreground, his daughter Emma at his shoulder.
