FOLLOWER OF AERT VAN DER NEER (1603-1677) FIGURES BY A CAMP, WITH TWO FIGURES SEATED IN A HORSE DRAWN SLEIGH Oil on panel, Florentine frame 23 x 23cm. * An old handwritten label verso reads Lot 167 (?) in Cardinal Fesch's sale/ Smith of Bond St has the Catalogue/ in which it is described./ It is also mentioned and described/ in Cassell's history of Painters, as an important work of A Van der Neer's The auction of the property of Cardinal Joseph Fesch (1763-1839), Cardinal Archbishop of Lyon, took place on March 17-18th at the Palais Ricci, Rome. The remarkable collection had once comprised over 16000 pictures in total (not all were sold at auction), perhaps the most notable being Leonardo's `St Jerome in the Wilderness` and Raphael's `Mond Crucifixion`
