with a copy of Country Bazaar, Summer 1985; and a copy of Bonhams catalogue of the Studio Sale from January 1990 (in which a similar sketch constituted lot 40 and the footnote states that a further version of this subject was exhibited at The Royal Academy in 1989) (3)
Provenance: Stow on the Wold, Fosse Gallery, acquired from the artist. In correspondence with the former owner in September 1986, Miss Swanwick identified the subject as a tramp in Kent who looked like a `sort of hermit-prophet` and was rather fussy about how he took his tea. This lot was previously sold in these rooms, April 20th 2007, lot 1502.
