CRICKET:-
A contemporary cast figure of "W.G. Grace" in his characteristic pose on a square base with integral wooden plinth, by Norman V. Bassant*, London 2019; 5.4" (13.7 cms) high
*Norman Bassant has had a long and distinguished career as a quiet, yet eminent silversmith. He was apprenticed to R. E. Stone (1947-1953), where he gained great skill and invaluable experience. He then transrferred to C.J. Vander Ltd., whose principal business was developing in the Middle East. From there he joined Christopher Lawrence to run his workshops in Southend. It was here that Norman made an idiosyncratric table centrepiece for which Lawrence won the coveted Jacques Cartier Memorial Award for. Norman began teaching silversmithing at Medway College, one day a week at first and then set up his own workshop in Kent, where he continued to serve his loyal client base.
