A RARE EARLY QUEEN ANNE, NORTH COUNTRY PROVINCIAL COMMUNION TAZZA with a convex moulded border and a domed foot with a short stem, inscribed on the underside "Ecclesia Sancta Maria Ballivi Austrat Dunelm Ex dono Cuberti Bowes, Jan 1702", by Eli Bilton, Newcastle 1702*; 7.5" (19 cms) high 8.15 oz *Although a Newcastle "town mark" was in sue during the latter half of the 17th century, it was only in 1702 that the Assay Office was established and this piece is stamped with the very first official date letter "A" (with a mullet)
