A GEORGE III INKSTAND
with a dished, plain rectangular tray base with three reeded guard rings, fitted with three detachable receivers, decorated with reeded bands, with dished lift-off covers and each engraved twice with a crest within Garter motto and Marquess's coronet above, the tray engraved with a coat of arms of Marquess*, with Garter motto and incised underneath with the scratchweight "55-5", supplied by John Wakelin and William Taylor but with sponsor's mark of John Touliet, London 1791; 14.25" (36.2 cms) long; 54.1 oz
*Arms are for Thomas Thynne, 1st Marquess of Bath (1734-1796) of Longleat, Wilstshire was a British polititian who held office under King George III. He served as Southern Secretary, Northern Secretary and Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. Between 1751 and 1789 he was known as 3rd Viscount Weymouth.
