A LATE 19TH CENTURY AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN CANTEEN OF FLATWARE & CUTLERY
with plain "fanned" terminals and a short band of reeding on the upper & lower stem:-
Fourteen table spoons, seventeen table forks,
sixteen small dessert spoons, nine dessert forks,
thirteen tea spoons, eleven coffee spoons,
one salt spoon, six fish knives,
six fish forks, a fish serving knife & fork,
a pair of salad servers, a small serving slice,
a cold meat fork and seven table knives and twelve side knives
with later stainless steel blades, each piece engraved with a coronet and the initials "L.M", the majority with the maker's mark "AP", Vienna c.1900 (post 1886, pre 1922) in an oak canteen box; the box measuring 20.5" (52 cms) long; 159.7 oz weighable silver
*Sold with a miniature portrait of Lola Montez (1821-1861), notorious dancer, actress & author of Irish descent, whose original name was Eliza Rosanna Gilbert, Countess of Landsfield. Also sold with two monogrammed linen napkins.
