A LARGE EARLY VICTORIAN PRESENTATION SNUFF BOX
of rectangular serpentine outline, with engraved convex sides, with the arms of Howard on the front, the cover embossed with roses, thistles & shamrock within a scroll border and surrounding a scroll-bordered cartouche, engraved with the arms of the Worshipful Company of Ironmongers, the gilt interior inscribed inside the cover "26th July 1849 Presented by the Worshipful Company of Ironmongers to THOMAS HOWARD ESQUIRE, the late Master for his able conduct in the chair, his businesslike manner of conducting their affairs, his successful efforts to uphold the dignity of the company and for his affability and kindness at their SOCIAL MEETINGS", by C.
