A LATE SAXON/MEDIEVAL SINGLE LOOPED BUCKLE AND PLATE.
A Late Saxon/Early Medieval Single Looped Buckle and Plate, c.1000-1100 A.D. The copper-alloy looped buckle attached to a separate sheet metal plate, the plate folded over the buckle bar and attached by an alloy rivet, also held with two further smaller rivets. The buckle with incised and moulded Ringerike-style zoomorphic decoration, tow beasts heads terminating at each end of the bar. Green patina, the plate moving freely on the bar.
