A FIRST WORLD WAR MEMORIAL PLAQUE AND MEDAL TO THE POST OFFICE RIFLES. A Great War Victory Medal named to S-37131 Pte A.W. Banton Rif Brig. With war medal ribbon and box of issue. With memorial plaque to Alfred Walter Banton. Born c. 1879, son of Herbert and Jane Banton of Lichfield Staffs, and husband to Emily M, Banton at 238 Park Road in Birmingham. He served with the London Regiment (Post Office Rifles), killed in action on the 25th July 1918 he is buried on the Somme at Dernacourt Communal Cemetery Extension, in a line of mostly unknown graves, his headstone reads 'In the Midst of Life we are in death'.
