METROPOLITAN POLICE MEDALS & OUR DUMB FRIENDS LEAGUE MEDAL. ISSUED TO THREE DIFFERENT FAMILY MEMBERS.
A group of five medals including a bronze 1897 Diamond Jubilee Medal, named to P C H Coles X Divn. A bronze Edward V11 Metropolitan Police 1902 dated Coronation Medal, named to P C H Coles X Divn. A silver Metropolitan Police 1911 Coronation George V 1911 Medal, named to P C H Coles. A silver heart shaped medal 'Our Dumb Friends League.' A Society for the encouragement of kindness to animals obverse legend. On a bar suspender and red ribbon, with a Horse , Dog etc obverse. Engraved on the reverse 'Awarded to Police Constable Harry Coles. In recognition of His humane work on behalf of animals, during 25 years service in The Metropolitan Police Force May 1916'. W.O.L (maker) and Birmingham 1911 hallmarks. A silver circular medal with 'The Animals Friend' top bar, 1000 cases of cruelty to Horses in 21 years, engraved on the suspender bar. Horses on the obverse, engraved 'Presented to P C H Coles 54XR X Divn Met Police. By a lover of Dumb Animals in recognition of the splendid services rendrd, by him on their behalf, Jan 30th 1911 and A Fenwicke designer.
