Lot 701
A 'BURMA RAILWAY' NORFOLK REGT CASUALTY GROUP.
1939/45 & Pacific Stars, War Medal in a box of issue with address removed. Inset in the lid is 557334 Pte Alfred Douglas Bryant, 4th Bn The Royal Norfolk Regiment. KIA 21/6/1943. Kanchaniaburi War Cemetery Thialand. (Thailand) Plot 2 Row 1 Grave 76.
The KIA details are actually unlikely, more so Died of Disease amid the torrid conditions of those building the Burma Railway. Presumably captured at Hong Kong, he survived for over two years. (Pacific Medal)
The Cemetery is full of men recovered from their Railside Graves, brought together in this and other post war burials/recovered victims. The Cemetery is near to the infamous Kanburi Camp, where POW's were sent out on work details. Over 13,000 were to lose their lives, on the Death Railway.
Condolence slip reads Pte A D Bryant.
Parents were Alfred Francis and Alma Bryant of Wilton, Wiltshire.
Also a War Medal in a box of issue, sent to A Y Bryant (Miss) RAF. Addressed to her at 8, The Avenue, Wilton, Salibury, Wilts. (Sister?)
