TWO BRITISH WAR MEDALS TO CASUALTIES. 28-Lond R & R N (1914).
1. Named to 3027 Pte J H Paine 28-Lond R. (James H) 1st 28 London Regiment (Artists Rifles) was serving in France from the 26/10/1914, entitled to a Star and also a Victory Medal. Date of Death given as 30/12/1917. He was the son of Mr & Mrs Paine of Beechroad, Sandercote Rd, Parkstone, Dorset. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
2. M-5733 R A White E R A 4. RN. (Rowland Albert White) died aged 23 years on HMS Niger, 11/11/1914. Commemorated on the Portsmouth Memorial. The son of Rowland Albert and Amelia White of 1. Bearfield Buildings. Bradford on Avon. Entitled to a Star. The Torpedo Gunboat (HMS Niger) was sunk off Deal by U-12 under Commandant Walther Forstmann. A Great War U Boat Ace.
