A LION OF LUCERNE PLAQUE.
A cast iron plaque of 4.1/2" diameter, depicting the famous Lion of Lucerne monument, in Switzerland. The monument was hewn in 1820-21, to commemorate the bravery of the Swiss Guards in the French Revolution. Defending Louis XV1 and his family from the 'mob', at Tuileries Palace in 1791.
Over six hundred Guards died at the stand, some 200 more were massacred in Prison , during the September 1971riots and stormings.
Their bravery and devotion to duty, were immortalised in the monument itself. The designer/producer of the plaque was Schwegler SC.
