* A handwritten letter from the artist to the vendor's late husband, dated 13.8.98, accompanies the lot. In it, Williams writes that `Garn Fadryn is the highest of the hills of Llegu and the small village below it takes its name from it. I never found out the name of the farm I drew...it was on the southern slopes looking down to Cardigan Bay.` Williams adds some reminiscences about Vivian Pitchforth and Edward Bawden and ends with this mild regret: `Yes, I fear all my animals are self-portraits showing the same neurotic apprehension that I suffer from.`
