A MID 19TH CENTURY CHINESE HORSE-RACING TROPHY CUP in the form of a vase with two dragon handles and a square pedestal base, the body and neck profusely chased with flowers & foliage on a matt ground, interspersed with ho-ho birds and banded by formal borders of vitruvian scrolls, gadrooning & Greek-key motifs, the front with an applied shield, inscribed "HONG KONG RACES 1850 CELESTIAL CUP Presented by D. JARDINE Esq., won by MR DUDGEON'S g.a.h. GREAT WESTERN, Ridden by J. King Esq., HM. 59th REGT.", struck underneath with pseudo marks and the maker's mark "KHC", by Khecheong of Canton c.1850; 15.9" (40.5 cms) high, 83.45oz *Provenance: To the original recipient and thence by family descent to the vendor. **Shown at The Great Exhibition of 1851.
