Lot 222

A GEORGE II MEAT DISH of shaped oval outline with a gadrooned border, interspersed with lion masks and leaf motifs, engraved on the rim with the coat of arms of a Viscount*, the reverse scratched "No.21" and "54-13", by Edward Feline, London 1752; 17.3" (44 cms) long; 52.25 oz *Arms of Hampden quartering Trevor for Robert Hampden (formally Trevor), third son of Thomas, first Baron Trevor of Bromham (near Melksham, Wilts). He was born on 17th February 1796 and took the name of Hampden in lieu of Trevor by Royle Licence on 22nd February 1754. He succeeded to the Trevor peerage on 27th December 1764 and was created on 14th June 1776 Viscount Hampden. As the Arms show a Viscount's coronet, the engraving was presumably adjusted after June 1776.

“I have to say I’m VERY impressed by the level of research that has gone in to the various items of my late father’s ...  Matthew sent me the full history of my Grandfather’s medals from WW1 - without any input from myself - so I’d only just sent him a note saying thanks, then the postman arrived with your items ... with even more evidence of unfrequented detailed research ! It’s been an absolute pleasure dealing with you all ... and may the pleasant surprises keep on coming !”
