* Dr John Beddoe (1826-1911) was a distinguished physician (who had served in the Crimea) and an ethnologist, working for much of his career in Bristol. He left the Bristol Royal Infirmary in 1873 after 11 years' service but retired fully from medical practice in 1891. This volume would appear to date from c.1891.
