A 12B SIDELOCK EJECTOR BY BENTLEY & PLAYFAIR.
A side by side 12 Bore with ornately engraved actions and scalloped breech with top lever opening. 27.1/2" barrels with Bentley & Playfair London. Agt F Dumond 21 Rue Des Pyramides Paris, on the top rib. Original colour hardening is evident in places, the barrels are marked .732" from proofing around 1970. The actions have Bentley & Playfair amid foilage decoration. Numbered 77301.
Contained in a Charles Boswell labelled webbing case, with the initials J N G on the lid.
Captain Jack Norman Gilbey of the Welsh Regiment ordered the gun from Messrs Bentley & Playfair. A renowned shoot who served with distinction during World War One. A highly rated shot who was connected to many shoots including Audley End in Essex. The gun has remained in the same family since purchase, having been extremely well looked after.
