A VICTORIAN OFFICERS 'MILITARY TRAIN' SWORD. An 1821 pattern officers sword with steel three bar hilt. complete with its steel scabbard. The very good condition 32.1/4" single-edged blade with three-quarter fuller, marked Simmons, Hemmins Row, London. The etched blade with foilate decoration and Victorian cypher under a crown, has on one side in seperate scrolls 'Military Train.' Originally named the Royal Waggoners thence Royal Wagon Corps, then the Royal Wagon Train in 1802. Then between 1856 until 1870, Military Train, later the ASC finally RASC. See Illustration
