* After Reynolds' original oils of c.1787-1788. Harriet Maria Wright (nee Day, c.1773-1843) was married to the philanthropic soldier and landowner Ichabod Wright (1767-1862) of Mapperley Hall, Nottinghamshire. They had 14 children. A label on the backpaper of `The Laughing Girl` seems to imply that the copy was based upon the picture lent to Mrs Wright by Sir Joshua himself but the dates do not tally correctly.
