CIRCLE OF JOHN JACKSON, RA (1778-1831) PORTRAIT OF THE HON. AND REV. HENRY E. J. HOWARD (1795-1868) Quarter length, seated, wearing a dark coat, and reading a book, Howard crest upper left, oil on canvas 72.5 x 60cm. * Traditionally ascribed to Jackson (pencil inscription on stretcher). The sitter was an academic theologian, the Rector of Donington in Shropshire, Prebendary of York and Dean of Lichfield. He was the 10th and youngest child of the 5th Earl of Carlisle (see lot 2107) and married Henrietta Elizabeth Wright (see lot 2103), daughter of Ichabod and Harriet Wright (see lot 2104), in 1824.
