JOHN FREDERICK LEWIS, RA (1805-1876) STUDIES FOR `AND THE PRAYER OF FAITH SHALL SAVE THE SICK` Two, each numbered and one indistinctly inscribed, pencil drawings on prepared (gesso) bevelled French panels, unframed 19 x 24.5cm. and 19.5 x 24.3cm. (2) * Studies for the oil painting, 90.8 x 70.8cm, exhibited at The Royal Academy, 1872, no.242 (New Have, Yale Center for British Art) Provenance: By descent through the Hewitt and Nicholas families. Sarah Ann Nicholas (1854-1934) was a companion to Marian Lewis, the artist's wife. We are most grateful to Briony Llewellyn for her assistance with the cataloguing of this lot and lot 1972
