GT WAR VICTORY MEDALS. (5)
1. Named to 25564 Pte S Burkey L'Pool R. Samuel Burkey was commissioned from the Liverpool Regt in March 1918. Entitled to a 1914/15 Star & Bwm, his address for his medals was , co The Imperial War Graves Commission, Camp Anglais, Albert, Somme, France. Seemingly a Liverpool Pals soldier, who stayed with the CWGC awarded an MBE in January 1950. He died in August 1960, leaving some £3028, 9/- & 1d to his widow, at 43 Westbourne Rd, West Kirby. His profession before joining up, given as Market Gardener.
2.19661 Pte E Varney Wilts Regt. Ernest varney of the Ox & Bucks LI Died on the 10/11/1918, remembered at Wotton Underwood Churchyard. (All Saints) Buckinghamshire. Entitled to a 1914/15 Star & Bwm, he was 42 years old.
3. G-36628 Pte H A Lunkenheimer Middx R. Henry Albert Lunkenheimer was a German by birth (Koblenz), changing his surname to his wifes maiden name Lockwood. Entitled to a pair only, he lived in Camden Town where he died in 1935. The family described as Master Bakers.
4. S-24118 Cpl W (William) S Grainger R Highs. Entitled to a pair only. He was KIA 23/03/1918 whilst serving in the 8th Battalion Black Watch, The husband of the late Gertrude Alice Grainger, the son of Mrs Grainger of 37 High Street, Bonnyrigg, Midlothian, Scotland.
5. 10044 Pte H (Herbert) Tadd Som LI. He served from August 1914 until his being awarded a SWB in May 1917. (Illness)
