VICTORIAN MEDAL PAIR TO A 19th & 37th FOOT RECIPIENT.
An India General Service Medal 1854 with bar North West Frontier, named to 3753 Pte J Youlden HM's 1st Battn 19th Regiment. A Long Service Good Conduct Medal with swivel suspender, named to 1897 Pte John Youlden 37th Foot.
John Youlden a native of Devon is confirmed on the medal roll, as receiving the Medal and Clasp. N W F Expeditions took place between 3rd December 1849 until 22nd October 1868. Whilst serving in the Green Howards (North Riding) He was stationed in Benares India in 1861 again in Sagar India in 1871.
It is recorded that 720 officers & men of the 1st Battalion 19th Foot took part in the 3rd-22nd October Expedition, under Mjr-General A T Wilde CB. CSI against the Bazotee Black Mountain Tribes.
Exchanging into the 37th Foot (North Hampshire Regt), he was awarded a Long Service Good Conduct Medal, award date as yet unknown;. He was shown serving with the 37th in 1875, against 'Discharged'.
Both medals have contact marks and the 2nd type LSGC Medal has some obverse discolouration.
