SIR THOMAS LAWRENCE, PRA (1769-1830) PORTRAIT OF ROBERT BURNETT JONES (c.1750-1817) Quarter length, wearing a dark coat and white stock, oil on canvas, in a period Carlo Maratta-style frame 74.5 x 62cm. Provenance: By descent in the family of the sitter to R. S. A. Donnithorne; London, Christies, April 15th 1994, lot 113 (the sitter's great grand daughter, Aeddan Arundell, married Captain Arthur Bampton Donnithorne in 1874); Private collection, Seattle, USA; Private collection, England. The sitter was Attorney General of Barbados until 1798. His wife and four daughters were each painted or drawn by Lawrence. This recently discovered portrait is a variant of the prime version, probably datable to c.1810 (Garlick 446; Smith College Museum of Art, Northampton, Massachusetts, USA)
