CASED 19THC AMERICAN BIRDS - CHARLES DURY
an interesting display of American birds, mounted on a tree branch and also with various Moths. The birds with small numbered labels next to them, and with an accompanying list with information about them. Written in pen they include Ruby Throated Hummingbird, Bay Crested Warbler, Downey Woodpecker, Blue Jay, Great Carolina Wren etc (mostly from Ohio), and also signed at the bottom of the paper Charles Dury Taxidermist, Cuvrier Club, Cinncinatti, Ohio USA. Mounted on a wooden plinth and with a glass dome. 55cms high (to top of dome)
*Professor Charles Dury (1847-1931) was a noted Naturalist and an expert in Ornithology and Entomology, he was also a noted Taxidermist preserving several specimens for Natural History Museums around the country including the Smithsonian. The list has a date for July 84 against one of the specimens, so this may well date this display of Birds to 1884.
