A REA BLUNDERBUSS WITH SPRUNG BAYONET & CENSUS MARKS
A Flintlock Blunderbuss with undersprung bayonet, made by Rea of London. Brass furniture and side ramrod, with a 15" octagonal/round barrel having London Proofmarks. Most likely supplied to the Irish Constabulary, with roller frizzen and sliding safety with the bayonet release before the triggerguard. The 1843 Census marks are D-N1513, stamped on the barrel top, the makers name Rea is on the steel lock.
A John Rea worked from 1782-1830 in London. Thomas Rea from 1790-1820 in London.
