A SPENCER REPEATING RIFLE & TELESCOPIC SIGHT.
A Spencer Repeating Rifle, fitted with a slim 32.1/2" blackened brass telescopic sight with side mount bracket and near muzzle front fixing. Numbered 10171 which dates it as circa 1863-64, with 30" barrel having six groove rifling. Barrel/breech top marked with Spencer Repeating Rifle Co, Boston Mass, Pat Mar 1860.
Used by both Union Cavalry and Infantry during the American Civil War, for which it received the praise of Abraham Lincoln , among others. Later on it was also used during the Indian Wars, with its seven-shot magazine.
