SHIPWRECK:-
A George III silvergilt mounted wooden snuff box of rectangular form with rounded corners, the cover with an applied border of acorns & oak leaves, centred by the stern of the ship "Alfred", the base with a plaque, engraved with a sailing vessel & the initials "GWtoJF", by Joseph Ash, London 1813; 3.65" (9.3 cms) long
*The ship Alfred struck a submerged rock in Plymouth Sound on 26th January 1813 and foundered. The crew were rescued. This box was made from a piece of wood from the wreck.
