A LIGHT CAVALRY OFFICERS SWORD P A O HUSSARS.
An officers light cavalry dress sword in the mameluke style, with Prince Alberts Own Hussars on the blade. The ornately engraved clipped back 30" blade, with Battle Honours Egypt-Salamanca-Peninsula also Waterloo and Bhurtpoor. Formerly The Light Dragoons, they became P A O Hussars in 1841. Ivory mameluke style hilt with a silver Sphinx inset in the crossguards, amidst foiliage. The blade with drums, halberds etc, marked Andrews Pall Mall. A steel scabbard with gilt decorative mounts
Lord Cardigan commanded the Regiment, between 1836 and 1854, of The Light Brigade fame.
