A BLUNDERBUSS PISTOL BY H MORTIMER.
A Flintlock steel barrelled Blunderbuss pistol, made during the period 1776-1780 with the name H Mortimer London. Steel flared barrel of 8.1/8" length, having first octagonal form for 3" then round form to the flared 1.3/8" muzzle. Full stocked with walnut, with decorative steel mounts. Sliding safety catch on the steel action marked Mortimer, silver escutcheon plate inset in the grip. Scallop decoration to the butt plate, with engraved designs on the trigger guard etc.
A horn tipped ramrod is present, with its worm attached. Markings on the barrel include H W Mortimers Crown and Gunmakers Company proofmark. An overall length of 14.1/4".
