Lot 59
CHANNEL ISLES:
An interesting group of ten engraved tea spoons and four various table spoons, all except one with initials, & all by Pierre Naftel, Guernsey, mixed dates 1780-1810; 11 oz (14)
*Most of these spoons are struck with Naftel's mark "PN" twice or thrice, two of the spoons have Naftel's mark twice with additional fleur-de-lys marks, and one tea spoon has his mark once, with two other indistinct devises. Naftel's mark has also been noted with a "J" (for Jersey) and it seems logical that he may have stamped the "J" mark on items for Jersey consumption but, due to the number of silver pieces extant on Guernsey, it seems more than likely that he was a Guernseyman.
