Lot 261

A GEORGE I TANKARD of slightly tapering form with a large scroll handle with a later cover, the body & handle by Joseph Bell, London 1716, the cover by Thomas Mason, London 1722; 6.7" (17 cms) high; 20.8 oz *Interesting to note that both Joseph Bell & Thomas Mason (from Wiltshire & Gloucestershire respectively) were both apprenticed to Robert Timbrell and their apprenticeships coincided for three years. After their Freedoms, they both worked for a time in Sherborne Lane, London. Given these connections between the Goldsmiths it is most likely that the cover would have been a contemporary replacement or addition to the body.

“I was able to pay for and arrange shipping through the Auctionet site. That is a very efficient site. I wish other auction houses used it. I have had many problems working out payment and shipping for other auction houses. Thank you so much for using Auctionet.”
